ADDENDUM - The Moral Calculus of a Death Lottery
Still learning Substack - Bear with "The Real CdC" please
To be clear, it was impliedly and expressly stated in The Moral Calculus of a Death Lottery that the death lotteries under moral scrutiny are those that are mandatory in participation, not voluntary such as choosing to drive a car or take a flight. The topic at hand is covid vaccination mandates where they are monitored and enforced by law.
Death lotteries may also include those not mandated by law, but rather coerced by societal pressure such as loss of employment, requirement to play sports, especially youth sports, or other activities in which participation requires covid vaccination.
Requirement to vaccinate in order to participate in society is a de facto mandate. If everyone in town shuns you unless you vaccinate, it is a form of mandate. In this case, a social contract to vaccinate is formed by townspeople, monitored by townspeople, broken by someone, and enforced by townspeople through the act of shunning. The townspeople are guilty of participation in a death lottery by social contract mandate like those who participate by obeying a law mandate. In the latter case of a law mandate, refer to St. Augustine, “lex injusta non est lex,” - “An unjust law is not law.”
The intended reflection in the article is that whether a person believes in or takes the covid vaccination does not matter. Everyone has a moral obligation to others to ensure that the vaccinations are not mandated, if they know that some will die somewhere at some time. Remaining quiet is a negative act of accessory to the atrocity. Going along to get along in order to maintain social group status or employment or another convenience is immoral. If you know it’s a death lottery, you are obligated to speak out against it and support those refusing it.
”Lottery” was used simply to represent a selection process in a game of chance in which the outcome is based on fate. It matches most definitions of English speaking nations’ dictionaries.
